An Evening to Savor Port
With UC Davis' Dr. Roger Boulton and Darrell Corti of Corti Brothers
Enjoyed and collected internationally, Port (also known as Vinho do Porto, Oporto or Porto) is a fortified wine produced in the Douro Valley of Portugal. The Douro Valley was defined and established as a protected region, or appellation in 1756 — making it one of the oldest protected wine regions in the world. Dr. Roger Boulton of the Department of Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis, and Darrell Corti, venerable Sacramento wine retailer, will introduce participants to the very colorful history of Port wine. They’ll explain the differences between Port varieties and vintage vs. non-vintage Ports, and teach us how the beverages should be stored, served and savored. They will also discuss the re-emergence of Portuguese Douro table wines, of which there are many excellent and little-known brands.
During the presentation, participants will have an exciting opportunity to sample an array of hard-to-find Ports and Duoro wines, paired with a delectable lineup of appetizers. This is an extraordinary chance to learn about these very interesting beverages from two highly regarded Port experts.
* Seating is limited to 70 participants.
