Suzanne Ashworth
Suzanne Ashworth, owner of West Sacramento’s Del Rio Botanical farm and passionate seed saver, has devoted many years to growing a wide variety of endangered and little-known vegetable varieties. She and her staff evaluate and develop appropriate uses for the varieties to insure their continued existence.  “When seeds aren’t grown consistently they die,” she explains. “And with them dies the cultural heritage as well as the crop itself.  Sometimes a crop can be retrieved from a seed bank or other places in the world, but sometimes it is simply extinct.”

Suzanne sells her seeds to seed companies and market farmers. Individuals can access her rare seeds through Seed Savers Exchange. She also offers a very specialized and intriguing CSA box to people interested in unusual vegetables, fruits, and herbs, and supplies beautiful organic produce to our region’s chefs.
