Marjoram

Origanum majorana

In Our Garden

Marjoram was originally classified as a sister genus of oregano but was only recently discovered to be a species of oregano. Its milder flavor adds a distinctive panache to many Italian dishes.

In History

A member of the mint family, marjoram was believed to be good for the intestines, stomach, and brain during the Middle Ages.

Cultivation

Growing Tips:
Sweet marjoram and winter marjoram need a sunny area with well-drained soil. All other varieties are very hardy and do well in most soils if they are not too wet.
